JOHN TYPE
John Type was born in 1972 in the Marondera Hospital to a family of three girls and three boys. John’s father is from Malawi and his mother comes from the rural area of Chiota in Zimbabwe. As with many artists, John showed an above average interest and ability in any form of art. John is the only member of his family to show an artistic ability. His art is abstract and shows incredible imagination and spirituality. John started carving in 1989 with Kennedy Migeal and was further encouraged by Roy Guthrie, the curator of the famous Chapungu gallery in Harare. His art has been sent to many countries including USA, Canada, Belgium, Holland, Germany and Australia. He and his wife Georgina were married in 1999 and have one daughter, Millicent, who was born in 2000. |
